914th Infantry Regiment's 1940 reproduction Field Communications Trailer

 

A focal point of the 914th Infantry Regiment is this 1940 reproduction Field Communications Trailer. Based on a Luftwaffe design, this trailer was frequently utilized by German Army. This particular model represents one found in the Normandy area, early June 1944. Stationed to the rear of the Omaha Beach, this trailer provided a central hub to coronate communications between forward Observation Posts, Beach Bunkers and Division Headquarters. Variants included; Listening Posts, Interceptions, Directional Finding, Coding, Wired Communication, Goniometry and Air Field Control.

       The 914th's reproduction is the only example in North America. Built to exact scale in all aspects, no detail has been over looked. The exterior and interior have been copied from original drawings and photos. All the features that the real trailer had are included this first class reproduction. This particular example was built by a Master Craftsman form the Chicago area, Dale Windhorst. The Trailer features both Wire and Radio Communication. The equipment includes a 10-line Field Switch Board, 14 Field Phones, 5 Km of Wire, 2 Torn e. b. Receiver Radios and Fu D2 Transceiver Radio. All the equipment is fully operational, manned and ready for operations with our squad level Communications Men.
